Oak Lumber – Oak Boards
In Poland, we are a leader in the production of unedged hardwood lumber in thicknesses of
26-70mm.
Oak Lumber from MGJ
We are a producer of the highest quality oak lumber in Poland. We recommend unedged lumber in various grades (1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade). We produce lumber in thicknesses of 25 mm, 32 mm, 40 mm, 50 mm, and 63 mm. Oak wood is relatively heavy and hard, with wide applications in interior construction and furniture making. Oak lumber is ideal for outdoor use due to its excellent resistance to external factors. Its abrasion resistance also makes it perfect for parquet production. The prices of oak lumber depend on its grade, thickness, and length. The hardness and durability, along with good workability, make oak wood highly sought after by carpenters.
Oak Lumber – Terminology
Oak lumber is cut from European pedunculate oak (Quercus robur). Oak is a long-lived species, living over 1,000 years. The range of pedunculate oak extends throughout most of Europe, as well as the Caucasus and Western Asia.

OAK LUMBER – BIOLOGY
Oak lumber is sourced from pedunculate oak, and we only process 100% FSC-certified domestic wood. Oak is found throughout Europe and Asia. Sessile oak prefers warmer regions. In Poland, significant populations of these trees can be found in Kampinos Forest and Białowieża Forest. Sessile oak grows in poorer and drier habitats but requires a milder climate. Oak occupies about 5.6% of Poland’s total forest area. European oak thrives in fertile soils and is found in numerous mixed forests.
OAK LUMBER – COMMON DEFECTS
Common defects include numerous knots (hard and darker than surrounding tissue), radial cracks, frost cracks, internal white wood, and tannic stains.
OAK LUMBER – NOMENCLATURE
The choice of a specific type of lumber, whether dry or wet, should depend on financial resources and the intended use of the lumber. Typically, lumber must be properly dried before use. We mainly sell dry oak lumber, but wet lumber is also available, which needs to be dried by the buyer.
PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF OAK LUMBER:
- Density: 690 kg/m³
- Brinell hardness: 64 MPa
- Bending strength: 88 MPa
- Tensile strength: 90 MPa
- Compressive strength: 52 MPa
- Shear strength: 11 MPa
- Modulus of elasticity: 11.7 GPa
All properties of oak wood are given for air-dried state with a moisture content of 12% to 15%.
SANDING OAK WOOD
Wide-ring oak wood, containing more late wood, is hard and more difficult to work with, while narrow-ring wood is lighter and softer, making it easier to process. During processing, it releases an intense aroma.
OAK BOARDS – JOINING
Water-based and solvent-based adhesives can be used for joining small elements. Only polyurethane-epoxy, two-component polyurethane, single-component polyurethane, and hybrid adhesives can be used without restrictions. Joining with screws and nails requires pre-drilling. It is not recommended to use fasteners containing iron due to the risk of corrosion and ink stains.
